Many Christians struggle with doubt, depression, and distance from God, compounded by a belief that somehow these mean that our faith is not genuine. Consider this passage from the book of Hebrews (chapter 10):
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
…
If we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries.
There would be no need to encourage his brothers – those who have been born again into the family of God – to enter into intimacy with God with confidence if they did not sometimes struggle to do so. He reminds us earlier in the passage that if we have believed in Jesus, the Lord will remember our sins no more. He goes on to describe what happens if we persist in unrepentant sin – fearful judgment of the fury of God’s holiness. O child of God – wake up! Turn from the sin that so easily encumbers (Hebrews 12:1) and look to Jesus. He is the only source of your joy in God, so embrace him and wait for your heart to follow your soul. There is still hope to be happy again!
LyricsVerse 1:
Are you in hiding, full of regret,
Or believe this time He won't forget?
Do you stay distant, clutching your sin,
Thinking your Father won't take you in?
Verse 2:
Do you hear thunder instead of His voice,
Only feel fear and cannot rejoice?
Come to Him now with tears in your eyes,
He'll drive the storm-clouds far from your skies.
Chorus:
Turn to the east, child, your light is rising,
Come feel the sun that shines without end.
Look unto Jesus, wait for the morning-
There is still time, there is still promise,
There is still grace, there is still
Hope to be happy again.
Verse 3:
Child, have you wandered to your old ways,
Has grief and folly filled all your days?
Are you in darkness, lost in the night?
Come back to Jesus- all will be right.
Ending:
There is still time, there is still promise,
There is still love, there is still patience,
There is still joy, there is still freedom,
There is still grace, there is still
Hope to be happy again.
